[ABSTRACT] This 240 sqft studio apartment spent 30 years as an office space until this year, in which a young couple decided to make it their home. The furnishing, décor, kitchen, and bath were added and remodeled to accommodate the shifting program of the space. The couple desired an earthy palette that expressed their creative and eccentric personalities with color and pattern. The entire design is comprised of upcycled materials, furniture, and accessories, several of which were locally sourced. The incorporation of plants, rock, and medicinal accessories is to inspire healthy, organic lifestyle choices and blur the boundary between outdoors and indoors. To open up the original floor plan, a hand-crafted copper window box, with operable sliding glass, was designed to provide communal, integrated seating and natural lighting. The kitchen, constructed from upcycled base cabinetry and handcrafted upper cabinetry is minimal and efficient with a double burner cooking station nestled inside a rich, hand-crafted upcycled wood countertop.
