MIAMI RIVER FISH MARKET

[ABSTRACT] The conceptual project proposes a Fish Market in the fish distribution district along the Miami River to allow businesses to sell fresher product directly to the public. This creates a farmers-market experience that brings the consumer closer to their food source, facilitates economic gain for local fishermen, and brings new, lively foot traffic to a somewhat desolate outdoor park. The open-air design of the structure cross-breeds the industrial environment with a censorial urban shopping experience of fishy river smells and skyline views. The pre-fabricated concrete roof system emulates the motion of the river's wake and makes up the majority of the architecture. The roof shelters a series of permanently installed vending stations, each having refrigeration features, ample storage, and security for closed hours. The interior ceiling is wrapped mosaic detailing, which gradients through shades of blue, reflecting light similarly to the scales on a fish's body.
