PRESERVATION

HISTORIC ARCHITECTURAL PRESERVATION

At Within Architecture, we are dedicated to the preservation of local vernacular and storytelling through architectural and interior design. We understand the necessity of contextualism in design and work to create neighborhoods over developing lots. We have teamed up with the Dade Heritage Trust, Miami-Dade County’s largest non-profit organization committed to preserving the architectural, environmental, and cultural heritage through education and advocacy, to live out this ethos.

HATTERSLEY HOUSE

In collaboration with GFD Architects and the Dade Heritage Trust, Within Architecture is restoring a traditional, Florida cracker-style bungalow originally built in 1910 near Downtown Miami’s historic Lummus Park. Within will be providing a new interior design and furnishing for the space that the County will use for Art and Science residencies to come.

HALLISEE HALL POCKET PARK

Two historic coral rock columns still stand from an estate built in the late 1800s near Jackson Hospital in Downtown Miami. The grass lot surrounding the columns is being rehabilitated into a pocket park for the Miami public to enjoy. Within Architecture will be collaborating with local artists, landscapers, and preservation experts to bring this park and its architectural columns into new use.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION

At Within Architecture, we recognize the construction industries affect on our planet and work to provide mindful designs that use local materials, renewable resources, energy and water harvesting, and minimally impact the land through consciousness of building scale. In Miami, our community is witnessinng sea level rise and severe flooding at its door step. Our designs intend to respond to the evolving climactic and environmental conditions that are affecting housing and land use in our cities, and provide longterm solutions for environmental resilience.
